About
Where castle towers pierce misty peaks, Czech warriors stand resolute. Eight new Bohemian men-at-arms and a unique warfare tradition for Crusader Kings III.
Tradition: Czech Warfare
Where castle towers pierce misty peaks, Czech warriors stand resolute. Masters of wooded highland and valley defile, they fight with ferocity bred from the harsh yet majestic terrain they call home. Skillful archers taking deadly aim, cavalry thundering down mountain paths, infantry forming spear-bristling squares — the Czech way of war blends courage, cunning, and determination distilled from stone and stream. From high meadow to river bend, their land and spirit forever entwined, none can break the pride of the Czech battlefield.
Adopting this regional tradition unlocks the full roster of eight Czech men-at-arms below.
The Roster
Light Footman & Skirmishers
Bojovnici Footman (Skirmishers)
The Bojovníci formed the bulk of early medieval Bohemian forces. Lacking armor and formal training, they relied on ferocity and courage in battle. Armed with axes, clubs, and spears, the Bojovníci advanced with minimal discipline but fearsome spirit derived from ancient tribal traditions. Their tenacity and willingness to fight compensated for any deficiencies in equipment or tactics.
Chodectvo Warriors (Skirmishers)
Behold the fearless Chodectvo Warriors of Czechia! Valiant fighters sworn to protect the realm with unmatched courage. Their skill with blade and bow is legend, and foes cower before their righteous banners. Glory and honor to these stalwart defenders!
Archers & Crossbows
Lucistnic Archers (Archers)
The Lucistnic Archers were skilled Bohemian archers who excelled in ranged combat. Armed with short bows and arrows, these light troops used speed and maneuverability to rain down volleys on enemies from a distance. Operating in loose formations, the Lučištníci could quickly reposition and evade direct combat. Their hallmarks were marksmanship, mobility, and rapid attacks, complementing heavier infantry and cavalry forces.
Pikes, Javelins & Spears
Pechota Pikemens (Pikemen)
The Pechota were disciplined infantry and the backbone of Bohemian armies. Armed with long pikes, they fought in dense formations wielding their lengthy spears to ward off cavalry. Their hedge of pikes and tight formations made them difficult to outflank. They relied on teamwork and discipline rather than individual skill to hold the line. The Pechota were masters of frontal assault, using their pike columns in a collective push.
Light Cavalry
Rohatynici Horseman (Light Cavalry)
A light cavalry unit from the Kingdom of Bohemia renowned for their speed, maneuverability and skirmishing tactics. Armed with javelins and swords, these light horsemen excelled at harassing enemies and softening them up before the main force attacked. Their horses were unarmored for maximum mobility. The Rohatynici were masters of hit-and-run attacks, able to quickly engage and disengage using their speed and agility.
Heavy & Armored Infantry
Pesaci Infantry (Heavy Infantry)
The Pesaci were heavily armored infantry forming the core of Bohemian armies. Clad in chainmail hauberks and metal helmets and carrying spears, swords and maces, these troops engaged in close combat. Their heavy armor provided protection, while swords and maces delivered crushing damage in melee. Tight formations using shields and discipline countered cavalry charges.
Heavy & Armored Cavalry
Jezdectvo Cavalry (Heavy Cavalry)
The Jezdectvo were heavily armored shock cavalry serving as the elite strike force of Bohemian armies. Clad in chainmail and metal helmets astride barded warhorses, they charged into enemy lines wielding lances and swords. The Jezdectvo used weight and momentum to scatter formations and break ranks. Their key strengths were heavy armor rendering them mobile fortresses, and devastation in melee combat.
Rytiri Knights (Heavy Cavalry)
The Rytiri were noble armored cavalry and the most heavily equipped Czech troops. Clad head-to-toe in plate armor over chainmail and helmets, mounted on barded warhorses, they wielded lances, swords and maces. The Rytiri operated as elite shock troops to break enemy lines and turn the tide. Nearly impervious to damage and delivering devastating focused attacks, their specialized role was to penetrate formations.
How It Works
- Play as a Czech ruler (the tradition is built into the Czech culture), or adopt the Czech Warfare regional tradition on a compatible culture.
- The tradition unlocks all eight men-at-arms for recruitment, each with its own art, statistics and terrain bonuses.
- The roster covers the full battle line — skirmishers, archers, pikemen, light and heavy cavalry, and armored infantry — built around highland terrain, disciplined formations and shock cavalry.
Compatibility
- Updated for CK3 1.19.
- Adds new content and overrides the Czech culture entry; compatible with most mods that do not rewrite the same culture.
- Safe to add to an ongoing save.
