About

Every ganger you kill had a family. Some of them remember.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.5 + Phantom Liberty | Cyber Engine Tweaks

You killed their brother. Now they're coming for you.

In vanilla, the gangers you drop are gone for good. With Revenge Hunters, killing one can start a grudge: a brother, a sister, a mother or a wife swears revenge. Hours later, a text from an Unknown Number lands on V's phone. Then, in the middle of one of your street fights, they show up: a named semi-boss with their own boss health bar, out for blood. Beat them down and they run, only to come back angrier. Five escapes later, there's no more running: one of you dies.

At a Glance

  • Personal grudges: a relative of the ganger you killed hunts you, with a name, a gang and a reason
  • 10 gangs: Maelstrom, Tyger Claws, Valentinos, Animals, 6th Street, Scavengers, Wraiths, Voodoo Boys, Moxes and Barghest
  • 8 relations: brother, sister, father, mother, son, daughter, husband and wife
  • Real phone texts: threats arrive as real SMS in V's phone, from an "Unknown Number"
  • Boss health bar with their name: "Rosa Valdez, an Upset Sister"
  • They run, and come back stronger: under 30% health they flee and return one rank higher, the Scarred
  • 5 escapes, then a fight to the death, so no hunt lasts forever
  • Loot that grows with rank: eddies, ammo, crafting components and a chance at a rare item
  • Never in story missions: main and side quests are off limits
  • Saved per save: every playthrough has its own hunters
  • In-game settings with Native Settings UI

How It Works

  1. Kill a ganger: small chance (default 5%) that a relative swears revenge
  2. The grudge sleeps: 8 to 12 in-game hours
  3. A text arrives: "You killed my brother. Your days are counted, V."
  4. They crash a fight: during one of your open-world fights, about 50 m away, out of sight
  5. They run: under 30% health: 5 seconds of running, then they vanish, rank +1, the Scarred
  6. Final stage: after 5 escapes they never run again
  7. Kill them: the grudge ends, loot drops on the body

The Hunters

  • Who they are: each hunter is built from the dead ganger: same gang, a relation that fits (a wife only for a man you killed, a husband only for a woman), and a name that fits the gang.
  • Who counts: gang members killed by V. Knocked-out gangers, civilians, police, corpos, robots, quest NPCs and bosses never start a grudge.
  • Elite bodies: hunters use the gang's rare and elite fighters, tougher than the ganger you killed.
  • Hostile to V only: they come for you, not for the other gangs or the police.
  • Boss rules: no takedowns or grabs, and boss-immune quickhacks don't work on them.
  • Left behind: if the fight ends and you get more than 150 m away, the hunter leaves quietly and waits for a later fight. Nothing is lost.

Ranks

Every escape makes a hunter one rank higher, and the boss bar shows their mood:

  • Rank 1: Upset, 2x health, +2 levels
  • Rank 2: Angry, the Scarred, stronger every rank
  • Rank 3: Furious
  • Rank 4: Enraged
  • Rank 5: Maniac
  • Rank 6: Maniac, final stage, 3.5x health, +4 levels, fights to the death

Phone Messages

Hunters text V like any contact, with the phone's own notification and a real thread in the Messages app:

  • When the grudge wakes up: the threat, naming who you killed
  • After every escape: a promise they'll be back
  • At the final stage: no more running

Every gang has its own flavour, and each hunter gets their own "Unknown Number" thread.

Loot

When a hunter dies, their body holds:

  • Eddies: 200 per rank
  • Ammo: 30 to 60 rounds
  • Rare and epic crafting components: more for every rank
  • A rare item (quickhack, mod or weapon mod): 5% per rank, 30% at the final stage

When Hunters Never Show Up

  • Main and side quests: never, and kills during them don't start grudges. Story fights with quest enemies nearby are blocked too.
  • Scripted scenes, cutscenes and dialogue
  • Safe zones: V's apartments, bars and clubs
  • While V is in a vehicle

Gigs, NCPD hustles, Dogtown airdrops and street fights are fair game.

How Often

Hunters are an occasional surprise, not a constant:

  • Each fight with a hunter waiting starts at a 3% chance of an arrival, rising +2% after every fight without one (up to 40%). That's about 1 fight in 8.
  • After a hunter arrives, the chance resets, and no other hunter comes for at least 1 in-game hour.

Settings

With Native Settings UI: Settings > Mods > Revenge Hunters. Without it, edit data\settings.json in the mod folder.

  • Enabled: on / off
  • Relative Vengeance Chance: 0 to 25% (default 5)
  • Simultaneous Relatives Vengeance Active: 1 to 10 (default 5)
  • Simultaneous Spawn allowed max: 1 to 3 (default 3)
  • Relative Vengeance Chance: the chance that a gang kill starts a grudge.
  • Simultaneous Relatives Vengeance Active: the most grudges at once. At the limit, kills stop rolling until a hunter dies.
  • Simultaneous Spawn allowed max: the most hunters in the world at the same time.

Good to Know

  • Saved in your save: grudges, ranks and escapes belong to each save. Loading a save never leaves a hunter standing around.
  • See who's hunting you: open the CET overlay and the Revenge Hunters window lists every grudge, its rank, escapes and whether it's still sleeping.
  • Turning it off keeps your existing grudges in the save; they come back when you turn it on again.

Troubleshooting

No hunter ever shows up

A grudge only starts on about 1 kill in 20 (default), sleeps 8 to 12 in-game hours, then waits for a fight outside quests. Check the CET overlay window: if it says "Nobody is hunting V.", no grudge has started yet.

Checking what the mod did

Bind Print status to the CET console in CET > Bindings. It prints the arrival chance, every grudge and why a fight is or isn't allowed. Post it in the comments if something goes wrong.

Testing it quickly

Two test hotkeys are also in CET > Bindings: Test: start an awake grudge now and Test: next fight brings a hunter. Start a fight in the street and your hunter arrives.

Compatibility

  • Patch 2.5, with or without Phantom Liberty (Barghest hunters need Phantom Liberty).
  • Doesn't replace any game file. Hunters use the game's own spawning, so they sit happily next to other combat and gang mods.

  • yamashi, psiberx and the CET team for Cyber Engine Tweaks
  • keanuWheeze for Native Settings UI
  • Inspired by Nemesis-style rival systems

Requirements

Installation

  • Install with Vortex or MO2, or extract the zip into your game folder (the one that has bin and archive).
  • The mod ends up in bin\x64\plugins\cyber_engine_tweaks\mods\Ket_RevengeHunters, and the phone messages in archive\pc\mod.
  • Launch the game. The CET console shows [RevengeHunters] loaded v1.0.

Updating: overwrite the old files. Your settings in data\settings.json are kept.

Uninstall

Delete the Ket_RevengeHunters folder and the three Ket_RevengeHunters_Messages files in archive\pc\mod. Grudges are stored as small quest facts in your saves and do nothing without the mod.
